A knotted fleece blanket is otherwise known as a no sew fleece blanket. It is known as a knotted fleece blanket because the two pieces of fabric that combine to be the blanket are held together by a simple series of knots. These knotted fleece blankets are very simple to make by both young and old, and make fantastic Christmas or birthday gifts.
To make a knotted fleece blanket, you simply need a pair of scissors a ruler or measuring tape and two pieces of fleece fabric that are large enough for its intended purpose. If you intend using the knotted fleece blanket on your bed, then you will need to make sure that the two pieces of fleece fabric are large enough to cover your bed. I would suggest adding at least 6 inches to all four sides to ensure the finished product is large enough.
To make your knotted fleece blanket standout, I would suggest purchasing two pieces of fleece fabric that are either different in color or pattern. This way when you join the two pieces of fabric together you will essentially have two different sides of a blanket.
To begin making your knotted fleece blanket simply place the two pieces of fabric down on the ground, ensuring that all four sides of the two pieces of fabric, match up exactly. Now go to all four sides of the knotted fleece blanket and cut out a 5 inch square. Now, you need to measure 5 inch strips, approximately an inch a part around all four sides of the blanket. It is important to make sure when cutting that you are cutting through both pieces of fleece.
Once you have finished cutting, you can now begin to tie the two pieces of fleece together. Hence, this is where you get the knotted fleece blanket. To tie the two pieces of fleece together I recommend a simple overhand knot. I would also suggest that you miss every second strip until you have been around all four sides, then flip the knotted fleece blanket over and begin tying together the strips that you have missed. By doing this, you will ensure that the blanket looks better, and when you have the knotted fleece blanket stretched out that look more uniform.
As you can see, making a knotted fleece blanket is relatively simple. It doesn't take very long, and the reward is a fantastic looking knotted fleece blanket at the end.
Quick Tip #1
Make sure that you never wash your Fleece products in hot water. You should only wash it in 30 to 40°C or else you will risk damaging the material |
Quick Tip #2
polar fleece is made by twisting fibre into yarns, which are then knitted into another fabric. This fabric is then vigorously brushed to loosen up some of the fibres which then gives you the fuzzy look that is often associated with Fleece products. |
